Subject Lead - Miss Cook
At Landywood, we create historians through enquiry, comparison, fascination and curiosity. All lessons are designed to inspire pupils’ interest to discover more about the past and to develop an understanding that enables them to enjoy all that history has to offer. Children are encouraged to develop a sense of chronology and investigate how things have changed over time, as well as understanding significant events in British History and that of the wider world.
We encourage children to have a deeper awareness of how local history creates the story of the place where we live, the things that have happened there and the people who have lived out their lives there. It is all around us in the place names, monuments, buildings and physical shape of our community. We understand and promote the importance of local history, as we know that this can promote place attachment, leading to a stronger sense of belonging. Children learn about the strong mining presence within the area and how it impacts us today, as well as Landywood over time.
